Contrary to the trends seen in 2024, travel revenues in the first five months of 2025 increased at six times the rate of arrivals.
According to data from the Travel Balance of the Bank of Greece:
Travel revenues rose by 17.7% in May 2025 and by 12.7% in the January–May 2025 period.
Inbound travel decreased by 2.7% in May 2025, but showed an increase of 2.1% for the January–May 2025 period.
The US market contributed most positively to Greek tourism in this five-month period, while France and Italy showed negative performance.
Travel Revenues (January–May 2025):
Revenues reached €4.352 billion, up 12.7% compared to the same period in 2024.
This increase was due to:
A 10.9% rise in revenues from EU-27 residents, totaling €2.326 billion.
A 15.1% increase in revenues from non-EU countries, totaling €1.813 billion.
More specifically:
Revenues from Eurozone countries reached €1.879 billion, up 3.6%.
Revenues from EU-27 countries outside the Eurozone rose by 57.2%, reaching €446.9 million.
From key markets:
Germany: up 9.9%, reaching €771.7 million.
France: down 7.8%, to €263.9 million.
Italy: down 4.8%, to €164.7 million.
United Kingdom: up 13.3%, reaching €480.6 million.
United States: up 15.9%, reaching €457.0 million.
Travel Arrivals (January–May 2025):
Inbound travel increased by 2.1%, reaching 7.089 million travelers, compared to 6.944 million in the same period in 2024.
Airport arrivals increased by 6.0%, while road border arrivals decreased by 9.2%.
Arrivals from EU-27 countries totaled 3.812 million, down 5.1%, while arrivals from non-EU countries rose by 12.0% to 3.277 million.
Arrivals from Eurozone countries fell by 0.5%, and from EU-27 countries outside the Eurozone dropped by 19.3%.
From key markets:
Germany: up 1.5%, reaching 1.080 million travelers.
France: down 27.1%, to 342.2 thousand travelers.
Italy: down 11.7%, to 311.9 thousand travelers.
United Kingdom: up 6.7%, to 710.8 thousand travelers.
United States: up 18.1%, to 463.4 thousand travelers.
Russia: increased to 7.5 thousand travelers.
