Eurocontrol: Record Week of Passenger Traffic at Greek Airports Since 2019

Passenger traffic (arrivals and departures) at Greek airports increased by 2% during the peak summer week of July 7–13, 2025, compared to the same week in 2024, according to Eurocontrol data.

Compared to the same week in 2019, however, the increase is a notable +21%, placing Greece second among European countries for highest growth in passenger traffic for this period—just behind Poland (+22%). Other top countries include Turkey (+18%), Portugal (+15%), and Spain (+10%).

While Greece shows a strong recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels, the year-on-year increase (+2%) is among the lowest in Europe for this specific week. Leading countries in year-on-year growth include Poland (+7%), Portugal (+6%), and Turkey (+6%).

Year-to-Date (Until July 13, 2025): Greece’s Strong Performance
From January 1 to July 13, Greece recorded a 5% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2024, and a 21% increase compared to 2019, with an average of 1,336 arrivals and departures per day.

This places Greece 8th in Europe in daily flight traffic, behind:

Germany – 4,716

France – 4,153

Athens Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) Soars +26% vs. 2019
During the same period, Athens International Airport ranked 10th in Europe for average daily flights, with a 7% increase vs. 2024 and an impressive 26% rise vs. 2019.
