Anniversary Meeting of Reserve Commandos in Chios: Strengthening alternative forms of tourism

With the participation of approximately forty reserve commandos, the Panhellenic Anniversary Meeting of Reserve Commandos is scheduled to take place in Chios on July 26 and 27, with the support of the Municipality of Chios.

In particular, the two-day event includes visits to places of particular importance to the participants, as well as contacts with local communities, in an initiative that, as the Municipality emphasizes, also has clear tourist dimensions.

On the first day of the meeting, the reservists will travel from the port of Chios to Lagada, in order to visit the unit in which they served. The second day includes a route from Lagada to the Masticha Museum and the port of Chios, with stops that are connected to both the history and the cultural identity of the island.

According to the Municipality of Chios, this visit is not limited to its importance for the reservists’ community, but is part of a broader strategy to promote the island. It is estimated that the event will strengthen the local economy, through expenses for accommodation, food, transportation, shopping and entertainment, while it will highlight the natural and cultural resources visited by the participants. At the same time, it is expected that there will be fruitful interaction with the residents of Chios, an exchange of views, cultural elements and experiences.

As the Department of Development, Entrepreneurship, Shipping and Tourism of the Municipality points out, this action is part of the efforts to strengthen alternative forms of tourism. The focus is on activities such as hiking, cycling, climbing, swimming and diving, which are exploited through festivals, sports events and thematic events.

The Municipality of Chios actively promotes such collaborations, aiming at the long-term strengthening of the island’s extroversion, the expansion of tourist flows and the sustainable enhancement of income and employment, through the dissemination of cultural heritage and local culture.
