The upward trend in international arrivals at Heraklion airport continues, as August “closed” with a 7% increase compared to the corresponding month in 2024 and 51,284 more international arrivals.
Specifically, according to data from Heraklion Airport, international passenger arrivals amounted to 784,647, compared to 733,363 in August 2024.
Domestic arrivals also increased, reaching 89,486 compared to 84,045 in August last year, up 6.5% or 5,441 compared to August 2024 levels.
The monthly total of arrivals at “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport is 874,345 and the total number of aircraft (arrivals and departures) is 10,998.
Since the beginning of the year, the airport has recorded an increase of 5.8% in international arrivals, +11.7% in domestic arrivals and +6.9% in total traffic, reaching 6,972,293 passengers.
50.5% of international air arrivals in August concern the markets of Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy. More specifically, the largest number of arrivals, by nationality, came from the German and British markets (193,978 and 116,961 respectively). This was followed by domestic arrivals (89,486), from France (79,336), Italy (51,121), Poland (49,144), Israel (48,278), the Netherlands (36,064), Romania (35,395), the Czech Republic (25,660), Austria (24,904), Belgium (23,683), Switzerland (23,155) and Moldova (12,783).
Four-digit arrivals were recorded from Slovakia (7,041), Hungary (6,600), Lithuania (6,309), Serbia (5,967), Denmark (5,817), Sweden (5,693), Finland (2,981), Estonia (2,827), Cyprus (2,685), Latvia (2,556), Luxembourg (2,402), Turkey (2,312), Norway (2,178) and Spain (2,091).
For the first eight months of the year, the largest increase in arrivals was recorded from the Israeli market (+36%, with 123,360 arrivals) followed by Italy (+22%, 135,748). Smaller increases were recorded in Germany (+6.7%, 814,460), the UK (+5%, 483,076) and France (+5%, 321,133). The Polish market remained almost stable (+0.7%, 174,018) while a small decrease was recorded in the Dutch market (-4%, 153,953).
