The site for the installation of the radar at the under-construction New Heraklion Airport, in Kastelli, was selected after complete studies and primarily serves aviation safety, pointed out, among other things, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tachiaos, in response to a relevant question in Parliament.
Mr. Tachiaos emphasized that a great deal of paraphilia has developed around this issue, stating that: “all these discussions result in the long delay of a project, in the torpedoing of a project, in the existence of very significant financial obligations of the Greek State towards those carrying out the project.
The result that you will see in Heraklion will be an excellent airport and, above all, a safe airport. Because where the radar will be installed is primarily a safety issue for the operation of the airport and does not concern either a private individual or the State. It concerns aviation and the people who trust their movements to airplanes”.
As he pointed out, the facilities of the new airport have been studied in their entirety in a timely manner and the optimal choice of site was made.
Regarding the issue of the studies, he noted that: “Despite the paraphilia that has been developed, there is no deficiency in the way in which the issue was addressed at the Central Archaeological Council, and the scholars on their part exhausted all possible possibilities, a full presentation was made. However, on the other hand, there was an extremism and a paraphilia, which the Communist Party took care to copy by adding its well-known “so-called KKE” on top”, Mr. Tachiaos stated characteristically.
Regarding the ownership status of the new airport, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure recalled that the Greek State participates in the concession company with a stake of over 44%.
