Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the HCAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) increased by 6.7% in the eight months of January – August 2025, compared to the corresponding period of 2024.
Specifically, according to the statistics: the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures of international and domestic passengers) in January-August 2025 amounted to 8.92 million passengers, compared to 8.36 million passengers in 2024.
August 2025: +6.9% in passenger traffic for “Nikos Kazantzakis”
The state airport of Heraklion, Crete served 1,789,861 passengers in August this year, recording an increase of 6.9% compared to the same month last year. At the same time, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at airports managed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority in August 2025, compared to 2024, were recorded at Syros airport +105.3% (3,763 passengers in 2025 – 1,833 passengers in 2024), at Naxos airport +19.3% (39,464 passengers in 2025 – 33,073 passengers in 2024), and at Astypalaia airport +18.4% (6,029 passengers in 2025 – 5,092 passengers in 2024).
+4.6% passenger traffic and +3.5% aircraft movements for the 39 airports
A 4.6% increase also occurs in passenger traffic for the eight-month period January – August 2025, at all airports in the country where commercial flights are carried out (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). Specifically, passenger traffic in the period January-August 2025 reached 57.47 million compared to 54.94 million passengers in the corresponding period of 2024.
Regarding the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) for the eight months of January-August 2025, at all 39 airports in the country, whose air traffic control is mainly exercised by the Hellenic Aviation Authority, an increase of 3.5% was recorded compared to 2024. Specifically, in total, in the period January-August 2025, 432,917 flights were carried out, compared to 418,160 flights in 2024.
