Ryanair: Over 1 million passengers held hostage by flight delays in Greece in 2025

Ryanair is making serious allegations of mismanagement and understaffing of the Greek Air Traffic Control (ATC) Service, calling on the Minister of Transport, Christos Dimas, to take immediate measures to stop the delays that are plaguing thousands of travelers.

According to data released today, Tuesday, by the Irish low-cost airline, from January 1 to September 15, 2025, more than 6,200 Ryanair flights to and from Greece have been delayed, affecting over 1.1 million passengers.

The “league” of delays in Europe

Ryanair provides comparative data for the same period by country…

France | Delays on 51,087 flights | 9.1 million passengers affected

Spain | 32,082 | 5.7 million passengers

Germany | 14,939 | 2.6 million passengers

UK | 6,795 | 1.2 million passengers

Greece | 6,201 | 1.1 million passengers

Harsh criticism of the Ministry of Transport

The airline blames Transport Ministers such as Christos Dimas, stressing that they are responsible for adequately staffing and managing national air traffic services, especially during the peak summer season, “instead of presiding over repeated delays.”

It is calling on its Greek passengers to visit the ‘Air Traffic Control Ruined Your Flight’ page and demand that the Minister for Transport take action to adequately staff air traffic services to avoid further unnecessary flight delays.

Ryanair Chief Marketing Officer Dara Brady said: “It is unacceptable that the mismanagement of Greek air traffic control services and staffing shortages continue to cause problems for Greek flights and passengers. Already this year (1 January – 15 September), more than 1 million Ryanair passengers – many of whom were families on holiday – have suffered unnecessary and reversible delays at air traffic control, all because Minister Chrys. Dimas has not taken steps to adequately staff air traffic control services in Greece.”
