Direct flights between Albania and Canada

A new air transport agreement signed by Albania and Canada paves the way for direct air connections, marking for the first time the possibility of nonstop flights between the two countries.

The agreement was announced by Canada’s Minister of Transport and Government House Leader in the House of Commons, Steven MacKinnon, who highlighted its strategic importance. As he noted, Albania is among the fastest-growing economies in Europe, a fact that creates new economic prospects, strengthens bilateral ties, and contributes to the overall improvement of Canada’s international connectivity.

The signed agreement provides for the operation of up to 14 passenger flights per week and up to 10 weekly cargo flights in each direction. At the same time, it offers airlines greater operational flexibility, allowing access to any point within the territory of each country, making travel significantly more convenient than in the past.

In the same vein, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, described the agreement as an important milestone for bilateral relations. He emphasized that enhanced air connectivity is expected to create new opportunities for tourism, strengthen ties between the two peoples, and facilitate access for Canadian businesses to a dynamically growing market in Southeast Europe.

It is estimated that the agreement provides tangible support to Canadian exporters in their search for new customers, in a country with a strong and highly active Albanian community living in Canada, which acts as a natural bridge for economic and business cooperation.
