Serious problems in the communication frequencies of Greek airspace have been recorded since the morning hours, causing extensive delays and the grounding of aircraft at the countrys airports.
According to information, the issue is traced to a technical malfunction of the frequencies of the Control Center of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), at the facilities of the Athens and Macedonia Area Control Centers Directorate in Elliniko, which is responsible for managing air traffic in the respective areas of responsibility.
Up to this moment, only flights already in the air are being handled, for safety reasons, while departures from Greek airports have been suspended or are experiencing significant delays.
The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority is working in cooperation with Cosmote in order to identify the cause of the problem and restore the smooth operation of the system as soon as possible. At the same time, an official announcement from the HCAA is expected, with more details about the incident and the restoration timeline.
The problem has caused disruption for passengers and airlines, with the competent authorities stressing that flight safety is the top priority.
