NBA and NBDL All-Star Elliot Williams signs in Greek Panathinaikos team

The leading scorer in the NBDL, Elliot Williams, has signed with Panathinaikos of the top-tier Greek division, fastbreak reports.

In Panathinaikos, Williams is joining one of Greek’s elite teams, which includes former NBA players Nick Calathes (Grizzlies), Ognen Kuzmic (Warriors), Miroslav Raduljica (Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves), and Sasha Pavlovic (seven NBA teams, most recently the Trail Blazers).

The new player is expected to offer the Athens “Green Team” further solutions in the point-guard / shooting-guard department and help in the club’s ambition for a position in this season’s Euroleague Final-4 tournament to take place in Berlin next May.

Williams, a first-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2010, saw the early stages of his professional career derailed by injuries. Through the 2012-13 season, Williams had only appeared in 22 total games for Portland and had the fourth year of his rookie contract declined by the team.

Since the 2013-14 season, Williams has played for four different NBA teams: the Philadelphia 76ers, Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, and the Memphis Grizzlies, who signed Williams to a 10-day contract in January.

He had been averaging 28.4 points per game across 21 contests with the Santa Cruz Warriors, the direct affiliate of the Golden State Warriors, also averaging 6.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
