Eratosthenes Seamount determines new Cyprus’ hydrocarbon exploration round

Cyprus launched a third licensing round for hydrocarbon exploration for blocks 6.8 and 10 offshore the island.

The selected blocks are adjacent to the Eratosthenes sea mountain expected  to hold structures similar to the huge Zhor reserve discovered in the Egyptian Exclusive Economic Zone.

The blocks selected for licensing on the one hand were mainly uncharted and on the other have been deemed to hold carbonate structures similar to the case of Zhor,” Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides announced in a joint press conference with Energy Minister, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, adding that “the creation and development of these structures is directly associated with the presence of Eratosthenes seamount within the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus.”
