A Turkish Airlines flying chef committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel room in New York.
The flying chef, Cumhur Ozmen, 28, was on duty at Turkish Airlines’ April 21 TK11 Istanbul-New York JFK flight, and hung himself in the hotel room where the crew was spending the night, sources told.
Ozmen was employed by DO&CO, not by Turkish Airlines, resources told.
Turkish Airlines carries out “Flying Chef” service in its Extended Range (Transoceanic) flights.
Professional support
With the partnership of Turkish Airlines Inc. and DO&CO A.G., meals are prepared and served to the passengers via Flying Chefs who give professional support to cabin crew during the meal preparation.
According to source, the flight crew came to Long Island Marriott Hotel after landing in New York. All members of the crew went to their rooms for a rest. Ozmen didn’t join the crew for breakfast in the morning.
Sources told that the housekeeping found Ozmen hung himself up in the bathroom.
The flying chef left the note, “Renounce your rights for me in this” (A blessing in Islam).
Sources told NYPD is questioning the crew, and the return flight can be delayed.
