Turkey and Israel are set to normalize diplomatic relations, after Israeli forces killed 8 Turks in an incident during a Gaza-bound boat from Turkey 6 years ago. A
ccording to Israeli officials, the full details, expected to be announced Monday morning, will include 20mln dollars in compensation to the Turkish families of the 8 dead and the return of Ambassadors to Ankara and Tel Aviv.
Furthermore, Turkey has reportedly agreed to end claims against Israeli military personnel and the State of Israel. The two countries sealed the agreement in Rome after a series of meetings over the past year.
The agreement provides that Turkey will offer non-military humanitarian aid to Gaza and invest in infrastructure projects, according to a Turkish official.
The normalisation of ties between the two countries might complicate the balance of power in the wider eastern Mediterranean basin, given that Greece, Cyprus, Egypt and Israel have tightened diplomatic and military ties over the past years.
