How are Cyprus athletes doing at Rio 2016 Olympic games

Cyprus’ Olympians have been continuing working their way towards achieving their own personal bests, or even a dream Olympic medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Men’s Laser Sailor, Pavlos Kontides, is the closest at present who can add to his medals collection after qualifying for the final.

Here’s a look at how Cyprus’ athletes have fared since Friday up until today:

SHOOTING STANDINGS

Skeet Shooter, Andri Eleftheriou, finished 15th on 64 points during the qualification-round for the women’s’ event on Friday.

Eleftheriou fell just five points short of reaching the semi-finals.

Fellow Skeet Shooter, Andreas Chasikos, ended in 18th during the first round of the men’s event on 69 points and then 16th in the second round on 118 points.

DISCUS FINAL

Discus Thrower, Apostolos Parellis, qualified for the final after throwing a distance of 63.35m, finishing in eighth place.

Parellis also finished in the same position after Friday’s final with a distance of 63.72m.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades tweeted congratulations for Parellis on Saturday and that “you are an Olympic medalist in the arena and in our hearts.”

SAILORS

London 2012 Olympic silver medallist, Kontides, completed race seven in eighth place, race eight in 14th, race nine in ninth and race 10 in eighth.

Next up for Kontides is the final medal race due to take place on Monday after qualifying in seventh place on 92 points.

RS:X Windsurfer, Andreas Cariolou, completed race seven in 18th place, race eight 27th, race nine in 23rd, race 10 in 22nd, race 11 in 19th and race 12 in 20th.

Cariolou ended his Rio 2016 campaign in 19th on 181 points in total.

WOMEN’S 100m

100m Sprinter, Ramona Papaioannou, finished round-one with a time of 11.61 seconds, failing to qualify for the next rounds after ending in 45th place.

HIGH JUMPERS

High Jumpers, Kyriakos Ioannou and Dimitrios Chondrokoukis, begin their Rio 2016 Olympic campaigns today.
