US sends team to Turkey to examine possible Gulen extradition

The US will be sending a team to Turkey in the coming days to examine allegations by the Turkish government of criminal activity by Fetullah Gulen, Bloomberg news reported on Friday evening, citing a Obama administration official.

Specifically, Bloomberg was told that the Justice Department will be dispatching the team.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has demanded the United States extradite Gulen, a Turkish-born cleric who lives in Pennsylvania, accusing him of being behind a coup attempt last month. Gulen has denied the accusation.

On Thursday, Erdogan had said that he personally requested from Obama to have Gulen extradited to Turkey.
