Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci are set to hold their latest UN-led meeting today.
Anastasiades told journalists after his meeting with Akinci on Monday that no statements will be made until a press release issued on September 14 will be released to the media.
After today’s meeting, Anastasiades and Akinci are also scheduled to meet on September 2, 6, 8 and 14.
Shortly after his meeting with Akinci on Monday, the Cyprus President stated that “the intention is not to have a media blackout” but to “facilitate the work during these important meetings and render them more effective.”
The two leaders are also set to meet on Friday, September 2, Tuesday September 6, Thursday September 8 and Wednesday September 14.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and illegally occupied 37 per cent of its territory. UN-led peace talks are aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof.
