Russia is supporting a solution to the Cyprus problem in the interest of both Cypriot communities without any outside pressure, a press statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
Moscow’s Foreign Ministry had released the statement after a meeting Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had with President Nicos Anastasiades in New York on the side-lines of the UN General Assembly.
According to the press release, Lavrov and Anastasiades discussed current bilateral issues and prospects for the development of Russian-Cypriot cooperation.
Both sides exchanged opinions on important international problems, including Russia-EU relations and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, the press release mentioned.
“The Russian side reaffirmed its unchanged position on the Cyprus settlement, namely that it is committed to a comprehensive, viable and fair solution to the Cyprus problem in the interests of both Cypriot communities and without outside pressure,” the press release concluded.
