84 Syrian refugees arrived on Cyprus’ shores on Friday morning after being rescued by authorities and transported to Latchi Harbour, reported Radio Proto.
Port Police rescued the refugees off Pachyammos, 30 children included among them, after they departed off the Turkish coast, Mersin specifically.
The rescue operation initially began late on Thursday and went on into the early hours this morning.
Cypriot authorities held a Civil Defence briefing in order to activate procedures required to register the refugees, and to investigate whether illegal human traffickers were involved.

The Turkish Coast Guard intercepted 114 illegal Syrian migrants off Mersin, Turkey’s closest region to Cyprus, on October 10. Their final destination was Cyprus, according to Daily Sabah.
