Myanmar call off 'aircraft crash' investigation after no evidence found

A search for an “unidentified aircraft” which was reported to have crashed off Myanmar’s coast on Friday was called off due to a lack of evidence.

Aviation authorities were alerted by “regional sources” to a crash in the sea off Myanmar, but investigators said they could not find any evidence of debris or wreckage.

Civil Aviation Department Spokesperson Tin Maung Ni said officials on Manaung Island halted their investigation.

So far as we have heard from CAD staff on Manaung Island things are normal there, so we’re not doing anything.

Ni said there were no reports of incidents from any “companies operating offshore in the area and overflying” Myanmar.

Meanwhile, Manaung’s Police Department boss said he had checked reports of the plane crash “thoroughly” and had not found anything to confirm them.

When news initially broke that an “unidentified aircraft” had crashed, Ni said: “The only thing I can tell you for sure at the moment is that it is not an aircraft from our domestic airlines, so far as we’ve checked.

“None of ours have reported any problems.

“We’re still trying to find out more about the crashed aircraft.”
