A suspect held after Monday’s lorry attack on a Berlin Christmas market has been released, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
Authorities said that they did not have sufficient evidence to pursue the case against the man, who was identified by the media as a Pakistani national.
The man earlier denied any involvement. He was captured in a park after reportedly fleeing the scene.
The lorry attack left 12 people dead and nearly 50 injured.
Earlier, police chief Klaus Kandt told reporters in Berlin that “we haven’t been able to confirm it yet.”
Germany’s top security official said earlier that they arrested a suspect who comes from Pakistan and had applied for asylum, however, now authorities are claiming that they might not detained the driver who is responsible for the loss of twelve people.
