The world’s most popular TikTok creator, Khaby Lame, officially joins the UN Tourism “family” as the new Ambassador for the Organization, confirming the decisive role that the creative economy and digital influencers now play in the modern tourism conversation.

With billions of views and global recognition, Lame is called upon to leverage his immense reach to promote responsible tourism, the preservation of cultural heritage and sustainable development practices.

His work will focus on highlighting the power of tourism as a means of development, job creation and unity.

His first partnerships with the Organization will be revealed in the coming weeks and will focus on activating the new generation as well as highlighting destinations that are “hidden treasures”.

UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said Khaby Lame has brought joy to millions of people around the world, stressing that his genuine and open-mindedness to connect with different cultures captures the very essence of tourism.

For his part, Lame expressed his excitement for his new role, stressing that he wants to use his platform to inspire a global audience towards more responsible and conscious travel.

“I started simply wanting to make people smile. We (the creators) have a huge responsibility. I am excited to embark on this new adventure and show everyone how we can make the world a better place through travel,” he stressed.

UN Tourism Ambassadors come from sports, entertainment, business, gastronomy and other sectors, and volunteer their “voice” and time to amplify the message of sustainable tourism development. The institution is constantly growing, reflecting the importance and diversity of the sector.

The announcement of Khaby Lame’s appointment was made during the Organization’s General Assembly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
