The 17th edition of the Cretan Wine Exhibition “OiNotika” in Chania was successfully concluded, attracting a large number of wine lovers and professionals in the sector. The event once again highlighted the potential of the Cretan vineyard with the support of the Region of Crete and the Regional Unit of Chania.
The Deputy Governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris, stressed the importance of the Region’s support for the wine sector: “The Region of Crete supports the OiNotika exhibition again this year. We are fellow travelers on this journey of the winemakers to promote Cretan wine and our vineyards. We believe in the products of our land and we are proud that the producers develop them every year, raising the bar of quality of Cretan oenogastronomy”.
The President of the Winemakers Network of Crete, Stelios Zacharioudakis, referred to the course of the exhibition and the recognition that Cretan wine has gained: “It has already been 17 years since Cretan wine has been presented at an organized exhibition in Chania. We thank the Region of Crete for its constant support of our efforts. The recognition of Cretan wine is constantly increasing, which makes us particularly happy. However, the fight continues so that the vineyards of Crete can occupy the place it deserves on the world wine map”.

The events
Visitors had the opportunity to attend specialized events, such as the Masterclass “Wines of Crete: A Look into the Future. Modern Techniques, New Trends & Future Challenges” with oenologist Alexandros Katsikandarakis. At the same time, sommelier Anna Maria Kampouraki presented a seminar on the history of Cretan wine, the indigenous varieties, and the special characteristics of the Cretan land (terroir) to the English-speaking audience of Chania.
Dr. Elli Ghika, Operations Director of the Crete Winemakers Network, noted: “The OiNotika exhibition is an important industry event, which highlights the continuous progress of Crete in the wine industry. At the same time, Crete is also evolving in the field of wine tourism. We warmly thank the wine-loving public and the professionals who honored us with their presence. The actions of the Crete Winemakers Network are numerous, and you can be informed about them through our social media”.
As every year, an organized Cretan wine shop operated at the exhibition, part of the proceeds of which will be allocated to the purchase of equipment and supplies for the EEEEK, supporting the important work of the foundation.
