With the theme of fasting and monastic cuisine, the Gastronomy and Local Products Festival is scheduled to take place at Loutra Smokovo from August 1st to 3rd, showcasing the nutritional richness and cultural identity of the Sofades region. This year’s event focuses on the connection between agri-food and health and tourism development, highlighting the uniqueness of local products and the importance of returning to traditional recipes.
The exhibition area will present products such as sausages, honey, wine, tsipouro, legumes, pasta, sauces, jams, cheeses, aromatic plants and processed goods from the wider region of Karditsa and Thessaly. The organizers aim to strengthen local production through the promotion of high-quality products that incorporate elements of the Karagouni diet.
During the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to attend thematic scientific lectures on nutrition, botany, oenology and the beneficial properties of spa tourism. Particular emphasis is placed on the nutritional traditions of Karditsa and the possibilities of utilizing them in the context of a modern and healthy lifestyle.
A special place in the program is the traditional cooking workshop for children, where a distinguished chef and his team will introduce young visitors to the secrets of local cuisine, through creative, interactive cooking with products from the Municipality of Sofades.
Smokovo: At the crossroads of gastronomy, wellness and tourism development
The Smokovo Baths, with their natural beauty, rich vegetation and thermal springs, are a destination with significant potential for the development of gentle and thematic tourism. The area combines tradition with wellness, offering visitors the opportunity to get to know local products through an experiential experience that integrates gastronomy, health and contact with nature.
The Festival is part of a broader effort to highlight Smokovo as a place with a unique identity, which can support a multidimensional tourism narrative – from thermal tourism and agro-food, to cultural heritage and local traditions.
The connection of local production with the tourist experience not only strengthens the extroversion of the region, but also creates the conditions for a more sustainable and qualitative tourism development in the future.
