Athens: The canteen on Strefi Hill is being revived

The Municipality of Athens is giving “life” to the canteen on Strefi Hill again. The former “Extrovert” is being given free of charge to social, non-profit organizations of the city and social economy organizations, so that it can reopen, providing items at a low cost and hosting community-based activities.

The canteen, with a total area of ??94.36 sq m, will be given free of charge for a period of five years. The organization that will be selected will operate it at a low cost for the items offered and will implement community-based activities in the same space. The financial income will be allocated to social activities so that the operation of the canteen benefits the local community.

The organization that will be selected will be obliged to cover the operating costs and maintenance costs of the canteen.

The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, stated: “The Strefi Hill is regaining its pulse and life. The former “Extrovert” is reopening with a social focus. The canteen will be a new meeting point for residents and visitors to the area, offering quality services at affordable prices. We are utilizing municipal property in a way that returns value to residents, supports collective initiatives and strengthens the city’s social economy.”

The Deputy Mayor for Education, Digital Governance, Property and Construction, Paris Charlaftis, emphasized: “We are giving the opportunity to social, non-profit organizations of the city and the social economy to actively contribute to the upgrading of the life of the Hill, by taking over the operation of the canteen with respect for the environment, the public nature of the space and the cohesion of the community.”
