The Municipality of Sitia, placing particular emphasis on the title it holds “SITIA CITY OF OLIVE OIL” and on the occasion of the celebration of WORLD OLIVE AND OLIVE OIL DAY, will hold a series of events to highlight, study and provide an experiential approach to the Olive and Olive Oil with the thematic axis “The olive as a symbol of culture, health and sustainability. Past, Present and Future” from 22 – 26 November 2025.
The events are included in the proposal submitted by the Municipality of Sitia for the initiative of the Region of Crete, “Crete Gastronomic Region 2026”.

*Yiannis Karvelas, Olive Oil Business Consultant, certified Pro Olive Oil Expert, olive oil seminar speaker and food hygiene and safety systems inspector.
*Prokopis Magiatis, Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products
*Dr. Eleni Melliou, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – School of Pharmacy – Department of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products.
*Vasilis Leonidou, Best Executive Olive Oil che
*Eleftheria Germanaki, Agronomist, responsible and head of the tasting team at the accredited Organoleptic Laboratory of Crete ASR .
*Chrysa Sofianou, former Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lassithi
*Panagiotis Maganas, owner of the “Peskesi” restaurant
*Vitsentzos Kornaros, olive oil producer, formator
*Vangelis Perakis, Coordinator of the Geopark of Sitia
*Manolis Tsantakis, photographer of century-old olive groves
-A tasting of new harvest olive oil will take place
-The above presentations will take place on the first day of the events on Saturday, November 22 at 18.00 at the ITANOS Hotel
-During the second day of the events on Sunday, November 23, a visit will take place to century-old olive grove and olive oil tasting.
-24/25/26 November, students from the schools of the Municipality of Sitia will have the opportunity to experience the process of olive harvesting in real conditions.
