The US embassy in London is to be turned into a luxury hotel as part of a £1 billion development of Grosvenor Square.
The Grade II-listed building will be emptied once American officials move to their new embassy in London’s Nine Elms next year.
The old building will be converted into a 137-room hotel with a spa and ballroom capable of hosting 1,000 guests according to plans to be submitted next month by developer Qatari Diar, which is owned by the Qatari Investment Authority, the Evening Standard has reported.
The development will also include six high-end shops and five restaurants.
Jerry Holmes, chief development officer for Qatari Diar, said a public exhibition of the scheme will be held from April 11-16, adding: “We take our responsibility to the local community very seriously.”
