The first five-star hotel in the greater Athens to open in 2016 commenced operation on Monday, in the spot where the education ministry was headquartered for decades in the center of the Greek capital.
The Electra Metropolis, part of the Electra Hotels & Resorts group, is located on Mitropoleos street, two city blocks from the main Athens metropolitan cathedral and Syntagma square.

Renovation work began in July 2015 and was completed in August 2016, with the chief contractor being Athens-based Aktor.
