The representatives of the island’s hotel industry are sending optimistic messages about the development of this year’s tourist year in Crete through Tornos News, emphasizing that they will have a more complete picture during their visit to the upcoming ITB 2025 exhibition in Berlin.
Specifically:
** The president of the Heraklion Hoteliers’ Association, Nikos Chalkiadakis, observes that pre-bookings for the island exceeded all expectations this year. As he says, there is currently a stagnation, however, this is not a cause for concern.
** On the same wavelength, the new president of the hoteliers of the prefecture of Chania, Emmanuel Stamatakis, points out that the messages for 2025 are positive and is waiting for the exhibition in Berlin to have a clearer picture.
Arrivals are increasing, hotel profits are decreasing
** The president of the Crete Hoteliers Association, Manolis Tsakalakis, gives the exact status of the data so far for the flagship of Greek tourism, which exceeds 6 million foreign visitors every year. As Mr. Tsakalakis reports in his turn to Tornos News, the bar of expectations has been set high this year as well, since the pre-reservations, which ended on January 31, were positive. At the same time, early Bookings continue to exist until March, with all that this implies for the further strengthening of tourist flows compared to last year. Of course, he does not fail to emphasize that although the messages for 2025 are once again positive, the bill will be made in October and focuses on the travel habits of foreign visitors, which create new data in local economies, but also in hotel coffers. What are these?
Visitors are now reducing the length of stay in hotels
At the same time, they are making a discount on the hotel category
In the meantime, they are also moving away from the All Inclusive philosophy for economy
And of course, they are limiting costs outside of hotels.
In any case, Mr. Tsakalakis hopes that the decline in hotel profitability will stop, since, as he says, last year they lost an average of 10% in their profits, while a new slump will seriously affect their viability.
It is recalled that Heraklion Airport for 2024 was in second place in terms of traffic after El. Venizelos, as 3.8 million passengers landed there, recorded an increase of 6.6% compared to the previous year. Finally, in sixth place in 2024 remained Chania Airport with 1.5 million passengers, which in turn also moved up by 8.3% compared to 2023.
