The Mayor of the city, Giorgos Zervakis, had a working meeting with the new Board of Directors of the Sitia Hoteliers Association, as part of a ceremonial visit, with the aim of collaborating to support and strengthen the local tourism product.
During the discussion, issues of tourism promotion, infrastructure, and operational improvements were raised, which concern both professionals in the sector and the initiatives of the Municipality and the Sitia Development Organization (O.A.S.).
The Mayor made special reference to the creation of a Tourism Office through the new Municipality’s Tourism Development Department, which has been staffed with personnel specialized in the field of tourism development, while he underlined that initiatives are underway to improve the infrastructure of the Airport and Port of Sitia.
For his part, the new President of the Hoteliers’ Association, Mr. Kakourakis, pointed out the need for targeted interventions that will enhance the diversification and qualitative upgrade of the tourist experience, through the attraction of new investments, the strengthening of trust in the region and the establishment of a stable framework of cooperation.
A common assumption of both sides was that the sustainability and long-term strengthening of tourism requires coordination of actions, utilization of available tools and stable cooperation between the Municipality, the OAS, and professionals in the tourism sector.
