Hilton Announces Opening Date of Conrad, The Ilisian (Former Hilton Athens)

A new era of luxury hospitality in Athens begins with Hilton’s announcement of the upcoming launch of the Conrad Athens, The Ilisian, in January. This will be the first hotel in Greece under the prestigious Conrad Hotels & Resorts brand, and the sixth in Europe, marking a new multidimensional destination within the historic building of the former Hilton Athens.

The New Face of Hilton: The Ilisian
The Ilisian, the new identity of the historic hotel, represents an investment exceeding €340 million by TEMES Group and the Olayan Group. Their goal is to transform the site into a modern urban hub that combines luxury hospitality, residences, fine dining, entertainment, and wellness. The new brand pays tribute to the Ilisia area, bridging the past with the future.

As part of the complex’s gradual reopening, the House of NYNN has already opened — a new private members’ club spanning 5,500 sq.m., which recently hosted Aegean Airlines’ press conference announcing the purchase of two new Airbus aircraft. It already counts some of the most prominent names in Greek and international business among its members. The new company, NYNN, also belongs to TEMES, and its name derives from the Greek word “νυν” (now), with the extra “N” adding emphasis on the present.

Conrad Athens: Redefining Luxury
Conrad Athens will offer 307 rooms and suites, including an ultra-luxurious 400 sq.m. mega suite with panoramic views of Athens. The facilities will feature:

Nine restaurants and bars

Expansive event spaces (22,000 sq.ft.)

Rooftop pool

High-end spa

Elevated 5,500 sq.m. fitness area with a running track, pickleball court, and outdoor training tower

The hotel is complemented by two branded residential properties: Conrad Residences Athens and Waldorf Astoria Residences, which include 55 luxury private homes on the upper floors (7th to 12th). Guests and residents will have access to the largest outdoor pool in the city.

Culinary Highlights
The complex will also offer significant gastronomic experiences. The iconic Galaxy Bar returns as The Galaxy Dispensary, an eclectic gastrobar featuring rare wines and spirits. Next to it, the Galaxy Supper Club aspires to become a new high-aesthetic fine dining experience.

The historic Byzantino restaurant will be transformed into an all-day brasserie blending Greek and French cuisine. A lounge caf?-bar will operate in the lobby, while a new building on Michalakopoulou Street will house a high-end Japanese restaurant, offering yet another unique experience for guests.

Investing in Creativity and Innovation
The Ilisian goes beyond traditional tourism development. With architectural respect for the former Hilton’s heritage — preserving its original facade and the relief art of Yannis Moralis — it aims to become a multifunctional space that supports the concept of contemporary urban life. It is promoted as a “platform for coexistence, dialogue, and innovation,” open to creative professionals, startup founders, and residents seeking a new way of living in the city.

Economic and Employment Impact
The project is expected to create 1,760 new jobs (direct and indirect), with up to 800 staff during full operation — triple the number previously employed when it operated as Hilton. Recruitment has already begun, with dozens of open job positions.

Additionally, the total positive impact on the Greek economy is projected to exceed €1.25 billion in the first five years of operation.

A Strategic Move for Hilton
Choosing Athens for the development of the 52nd Conrad worldwide (and 6th in Europe) aligns with Hilton’s strategy to further expand in culturally rich metropolises. Under the motto “where history meets modern luxury,” Conrad aims to deliver high-standard experiences to discerning travelers.

Conrad Athens, The Ilisian, is more than just a hotel — it is a symbol of a new era for Athens. A new landmark of luxury, culture, and urban life, expected to elevate the Greek capital’s position on the global hospitality map.
