5-star Milos Cove expands with new suites and pools

Milos, one of the most popular islands in the Cyclades with rapidly increasing tourist demand, is seeing one of the few 5-star units launch a significant investment upgrade. Milos Cove Inception Resort, which has been operating since 2018, is entering a new phase of development with the aim of strengthening its capacity and reshaping the region’s tourism product.

The investment by Milos Cove S.A. includes the construction of a new 17-room complex, the addition of another swimming pool, as well as the expansion of the underground part of the main building to accommodate an indoor swimming pool. With these interventions, the total capacity will rise to 118 beds, while the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant will increase accordingly.

The project is in the environmental licensing phase, with the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) being put out for public consultation until October 13. An important element is that the project location does not fall within any Natura protected areas, with the nearest one being five kilometers away.

According to the EIS, the project is expected to act as a landmark for the tourist map of Milos, enhancing the luxury product and attracting travelers with high purchasing power. The company emphasizes that the goal is to highlight the local history and cultural identity, but also to stimulate the local economy through new jobs and increased tourist flows.

Today, Milos Cove employs 30 permanent employees, while upon completion of the investment, an additional 20 positions are expected to be created. At the same time, the plan includes the use of electric vehicles to transport visitors within the complex, reducing the energy footprint of the unit.

The works are expected to last approximately 15 months and will start immediately after the approval of the environmental conditions. The resort operates from May to September, with an average occupancy rate of 70%.

Luxury units in Milos are being strengthened

The importance of the investment is particularly important in the context of the hotel map of Milos. According to data from the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (2024), the majority of units on the island are 2 and 3 stars, while 4* and 5* only account for 29% of the available beds. Only two units operate in the 5-star category, with a total capacity of 142 beds, a percentage that corresponds to only 8% of the hotel supply.

It is therefore no coincidence that Milos has attracted the interest of investors, although recent developments with the hotel in Sarakiniko seem to make them much more cautious in matters concerning the protection of the unique physiognomy of the island.
