Promotion of Alonissos to the French public of diving enthusiasts

The Greek National Tourism Organization approved the implementation of a familiarization trip organized by the French Foreign Ministry to Alonissos during the period from 7 to 11 September 2025 with the participation of the travel editor and photographer Mr. St?phane Jacques Coutteel.

The purpose of this action is to collect the necessary material for writing an extensive tribute to the official bimonthly magazine of the French Federation of Underwater Studies and Sports, “Subaqua” with a circulation of 14,000 copies. The tribute is intended to highlight Alonissos and the Sporades island complex as an ideal, alternative holiday destination for the specialized French public of diving enthusiasts, water sports and nature activities, for six months a year.

The presentation of the wider region will also cover the cultural heritage, gastronomy and authentic marine wealth of Alonissos, with particular emphasis on the National Marine Park, the Underwater Museum with the Peristera shipwreck, as well as the island’s diving centers.

The magazine is aimed at more than 150,000 license holders, divers and federal athletes, both in France and overseas territories, while its official website receives over 200,000 unique visitors per month. The above tribute is to be published in an issue of the first half of the year 2026. With a view to strengthening the country’s tourist promotion, the Greek National Tourist Office of France Abroad Service will collaborate with the Municipality of Alonissos and other local bodies to implement the trip.

Moreover, the Greek National Tourist Organization will participate financially in exchange for compensatory benefits in the costs of organizing the 18th International Rhodes Festival 2025, which will be held in Rhodes and Kastelorizo ??from September 5 to 12. According to the Greek National Tourist Organization, the 18th Rhodes Music Festival will be an ideal opportunity to highlight and promote Rhodes, Kastelorizo ??and the wider South Aegean region to the international travel public.
