The Pancyprian Hoteliers Association (PASYXE) issued the following statement for World Tourism Day, which is celebrated annually on September 27:
The tourism sector in Cyprus is currently facing significant challenges, such as increased energy costs and the lack of water resources due to the effects of climate change. These challenges necessitate immediate adaptation and implementation of practices that reduce the energy footprint, enhance the efficient use of resources and chart a development path that is aligned with the principles of sustainability.
Our strategy must be consistent with global trends, since the modern traveler seeks destinations that respect the environment, invest in innovation and offer authentic experiences. It is our responsibility to strengthen the competitiveness of the Cypriot tourism product by investing in new forms of tourism that develop throughout the year and support local communities.
PASYXE reaffirms its commitment to the integration of sustainable development practices in the tourism sector. The adoption of innovative solutions, investment in green technologies and the promotion of forms of tourism that respect the environment and strengthen the local community are key pillars of our strategy. Our goal is to create a tourism product that will remain internationally competitive, while at the same time serving the principles of sustainability and contributing to the improvement of the quality of life in our country.
Statement by PASYXE President, Mr. Thanos Michaelides
“World Tourism Day is an opportunity to reflect that tourism is not just an economic activity; it is a force that connects people, cultivates respect, highlights our cultural identity and strengthens social cohesion. We must ensure that today’s successes are transformed into solid foundations for tomorrow, so that future generations can enjoy sustainable, innovative and resilient tourism. With vision, strategy and collective commitment, we can elevate Cyprus tourism to even higher levels and make it a model of positive change and sustainable transformation for the entire region.”
