200 small hotels for sale in popular mountain destinations – Buyers mainly from the Greek diaspora

Approximately 200 small hotels and tourist accommodations, mainly family-run and with a capacity of 10 to 20 beds, are currently up for sale in popular mountain and winter destinations across the country, according to data presented today on an informational program on public television.

According to statements by the president of the Panhellenic Network E-Real Estates, Themistoklis Bakas, the highest concentration of units on the market is found in Arachova, Kalavryta, Karpenisi, Portaria, Arcadia, and the wider region of Epirus. These are small hotel businesses that operated for years as family enterprises but are now facing increased operating costs, upgrade requirements, and limited seasonal performance.

At this point, it should be emphasized that, as noted, buyer interest comes largely from members of the Greek diaspora, particularly for areas such as Karpenisi and Arcadia. These purchases are linked both to emotional ties with the Greek countryside and to the belief that mountain destinations can gain greater added value in the coming years.

At the same time, the president of the E-Real Estates network underlined that mountain tourism shows clear signs of momentum, especially after the pandemic, as demand grows for mild forms of tourism, nature, and authentic hospitality experiences. However, he stressed that the critical issue remains the extension of the tourist season, so that these areas do not rely exclusively on the winter peak.

On the other hand, without more organized planning, investments in infrastructure, and the development of thematic products that support the operation of these units throughout the year, pressure on small family businesses is expected to continue.
