Russian tourism: Stop-sales by Greek hotels due to increased demand

A rise of 10-30% in the demand for holidays in Greece this summer, has been recorded by Russian tour operators during the pre-booking period, having already forced a portion of Greek hotels to stop sales.

Biblio-Globus recorded an increase of 15-20%, TUI Russia showed 10-15%, Sunmar saw 15% while NTK Intourist, PAX, Coral Travel and ANEX Tour reported stronger demand than last year.

The biggest rise of 40% in booking during January has been recorded by Mouzenidis Travel, which became an official partner of the Greek-Russian Tourism Year 2017-2018.

According to the Association of Russian Tour Operators, the strong demand is attributed to tourists’ loyalty to tour operators, the low prices of the pre-booking period, and concerns that Greek hotel rooms will soon not be available.

At the moment, Mouzenidis Travel’s reservation rate for Greece has dropped from + 40% to +25-27% compared to the same period last year, due to the fact that popular Greek hotels have gradually stopped to accept reservations since their rooms are being filled and demand from Western European markets is also very high.
