New data on Balkan tourist arrivals after the opening of the border with Bulgaria

New data are being created on the crossings of Balkan visitors after the opening of the borders of Greece with Bulgaria, at Promachonas, with arrivals now taking place in record time, with what this implies for the increases in tourist flows, from Bulgaria, Serbia and mainly from Romania.

As the former president of POX and current president of the Halkidiki Hoteliers Association, Grigoris Tasios, emphasizes in Tornos News, this development will help last-minute reservations, while it will give a boost to the arrivals of visitors from Romania. Now, as the president of EXH emphasizes, only one check will be required from Romania and the travel time will be reduced by at least 7 hours.

Balkan visitors have been giving a vote of confidence in Northern Greece and beyond for 20 years and it is unfair to say that they are not good customers, as is emphasized. They basically support short-term rentals in the region, as well as small hotels that work with Balkan visitors. Of course, there is also a significant portion of visitors who choose luxury resorts in Halkidiki and, in fact, with the new data at the borders, it is estimated that these customers will increase.

The only problem with the Balkan markets is the fact that the season for them is 110 days, specifically from May 20 to the beginning of September, with Mr. Tasios emphasizing that the Halkidiki Tourist Organization is running actions to soften the tourist season.

It is recalled that, based on the most recent INSETE data, for road arrivals from Bulgaria, it is emphasized that in the period January-November 2024, they increased by +838 thousand/+19.5%, reaching 5.1 million.

Halkidiki at the TTR Tourism Exhibition in Bucharest

Grigoris Tasios visited the TTR tourism exhibition in Bucharest. Although our country did not officially participate, Northern Greece was dynamically represented by many professionals and representatives of local government.

“Romania’s accession to the Schengen “zone” is a significant development, making road access easier and faster. This opens up new prospects for more overnight stays even at the end of the season,” Mr. Tasios emphasizes in a post on social media.

The tourism fair season continues and the Halkidiki Tourist Organization is making a strong “presence” in Serbia, Munich, and from March 4 to 7 in Berlin.
