Greece as an ideal destination all year round, especially for the Swedish retiree audience (silver generation), was promoted at the event “Seniordagen 2025”, which took place with the participation of the GNTO Scandinavia last week in a central square in Stockholm, next to the Palace and the Swedish Parliament.
This is an annual event, organized since 2015 with a focus on retired travelers, and in which the GNTO participated this year for the third year with the Municipalities of Volos, Zagora-Mouresio, and South Pelion as co-exhibitors.
The Greek participation aimed to promote the special forms of tourism that our country can offer and, in particular, the Volos-Pelion destination to this specific audience in Sweden, which amounts to approximately two million. people, representing almost 70% of the country’s disposable income.
Visitor preferences survey
During the event, a survey was conducted among the numerous visitors to the GNTO pavilion regarding the main reasons for choosing our country, among the Mediterranean destinations, as their vacation destination.
The survey data revealed that:
- The main reasons are Greek culture, sights, sun, sea, and gastronomy.
- In particular, the Greek islands (Crete, Rhodes, Ionian and NE Aegean islands, Sporades) are for most people a favorite and stable vacation destination, with the majority having traveled to them more than three times, planning to visit them again within 2025, while
- The average length of stay in our country is one to two weeks.
Among the participants in the survey, a raffle was also held with three winners receiving a free 4-day stay in luxury accommodations in Pelion.
Special tribute to Volos – Pelion
In total, the event venue was visited, according to the organizers, by over 29,000 people, most of whom were aged 55 and over.
Finally, it is noted that before the event, a promotional tribute by the Greek National Tourism Organization for Volos and Pelion was published in the special edition “Det Ljuva Livet” (The Good Life), which was published as an insert in Sweden’s largest newspaper “Aftonbladet Newspaper” with a circulation of 450,000 sheets and over 4 million readers.
