Preveza to join the European Association of Historic Spa Towns

The intention of the Municipality of Preveza to join the European Association of Historic Spa Towns (EHTTA), one of the official Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, was explored by the Mayor of Preveza, Nikos Georgakos, and the Secretary General of the Greek Association of Spa Towns, Markos Danas, in the context of the General Assembly of the Association, which took place in the spa town of B?ile Herculane, Romania.

During the meeting, contacts were made with top executives of the EHTTA, including the President of the Scientific Committee, Prof. Hans Hornyik, the Executive Director, Simone Sagrodnik, as well as the President of the Association and Mayor of Montegrotto Therme, Riccardo Mortandello, who expressed particular interest in the case of Preveza.

The Municipality of Preveza is at an advanced stage of completing its thermal facilities, and Mr. Georgakos seeks to connect with European bodies in order to strengthen the know-how and awareness of the destination in the field of thermal tourism.

The mission also included, from the Greek side, the Mayor of Loutraki – Agioi Theodoroi – Perachora, Giorgos Gkionis, representing one of the already active Greek municipalities in the EHTTA.

The participants were particularly impressed by the special workshop and the on-site visit to the historical facilities of Neptune Bath, in B?ile Herculane, where the restoration project of the 19th-century baths was presented, constituting a typical example of sustainable utilization of thermal heritage.
