The beauty of the Rhodes landscape, the sights of Rhodes, the history and culture of the island, the Medieval City and the kindness of the inhabitants, the unique Rhodian hospitality and the traditional flavors of the island, won the hearts of the three Irish journalists-presenters, well-known bloggers, and the entire television crew from the Irish state television, who visited the island of Rhodes for five days from 13-18 May 2025, as part of a journalistic trip organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization of the United Kingdom and Ireland in collaboration with the Tourism Directorate of the Municipality of Rhodes.
The purpose of the trip was to promote the island to the Irish market as an ideal destination for summer and family holidays, but also to highlight other aspects of it, such as culture, gastronomy, and the possibilities for alternative tourism.
Essentially, this is a tribute to Rhodes, literally another Rhodes, in the popular travel show T?acs Taistil on the Irish state television TG4, a show that uniquely combines adventure, culture, interactive activities, and humor and is aimed at a young audience!
The Irish travel series, which airs on the state-run TG4 channel, is now in its fourth season, and Rhodes will be featured in an episode of the 4th season in April 2026.
The television crew of the popular travel show “T?acs Taistil” on the Irish channel TG4 consists of Laura Heeney, journalist and presenter, Proinsias ? Coinn, a journalist and presenter from South Armagh, with a passion for travel and human stories, and S?aghan ? S?illeabh?in, known as @thekerrycowboy, a farmer and educator with an active presence on social media. The director of the show for Rhodes is Maurice Sweeney, and the producer is Mairead Tucker. The television crew is completed by members Chloe Tynan, Michael O’Donovan, Alistair Fis,h and Finny Byrne.
The tribute to Rhodes had many filming locations in unique parts of the island, in traditional houses, Monuments, and the Medieval City, where they also watched a theatrical performance, given uniquely by the members of Medieval Rhodes.
The television camera captured the three presenters participating in pottery classes and lessons on how to make melekouni. They tasted traditional Rhodian cuisine, in amazing restaurants, and above all, they met people from the island and lived new experiences and the well-known Rhodian hospitality. They took with them melekouni and traditional sweets that local businessmen gave them.
This short visit was decisive for the Irish visitors who got to know Rhodes not only as a tourist destination, but also as a destination of alternative tourism, of natural and gastronomic interest.
“It is a fact that from all the filming we have seen so far, this is a different show, a travel show that combines adventure, culture, and humor in a unique way, offering a unique experience to viewers and a tribute to Rhodes, different from the others. Viewers will see another Rhodes, which can and does combine beauty, events, rich experiences, and the authentic Rhodian hospitality, a trademark of our place and country! This is also one of the goals of the municipal authority and the Tourism Directorate, the promotion of the other side of Rhodes, in conclusion, the promotion of alternative tourism in all its manifestations! The presenters even found that the two peoples, Greeks and Irish, have similarities in many ways, they are open-hearted, friendly to foreigners, they like traveling, they have many traditional musical tastes in common, they rejoice and enjoy life itself in a similar way to us!” emphasized Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Culture Georgios Toppos.
The fourth season, which will be broadcast in April 2026, includes episodes from six cities, such as Vienna, Tangier, Larnaca, Rhodes, Chicago, and Toronto, with the aim of attracting a young audience aged 20–35.
All episodes are available for free via the TG4 Player platform:
The show also maintains an active presence on social media, such as TikTok and Instagram, where it shares snapshots from its travels and interacts with the audience.
