The Frankfurter Rundschau publishes an article about the possibility of Germans going on holiday this year and signs it with the title: “Summer holiday in Italy, Croatia or Greece? New survey shows worrying figures from Germany”.
The article states: “For around 17.4 million people in Germany, summer holidays are likely to remain an unfulfilled dream this year. According to recent figures from the Federal Statistical Office, one in five citizens in the country cannot afford a week’s holiday. At 21%, this puts Germany below the EU average of 27%, but for those who want to go on holiday, this is not much consolation.”
The publication also notes that things in Germany are particularly difficult for single-parent families, while also referring to the situation in Germany:
“A comparison across Europe clearly shows how different the situation is in the different EU countries. In Romania, 59% of the population cannot afford a week-long vacation, more than double the EU average. In Greece (46%) and Bulgaria (41%), vacations also remain an unfulfilled desire for many people. The situation is better in Luxembourg, where only 9% of residents have to give up vacations for financial reasons. In Sweden, the same percentage is 12% and in the Netherlands it is 13%.
