The Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments gave the green light for the implementation of large investment project “Keramia Hotel and Tourism SA” on the island of Chios, with a EUR 100 million budget.
According to the decision, the investment will be subject to the procedures of the Strategic Investments Law Fast Track (N. 3894/2010).
Luxury tourism complex
The investment, which was presented to the Committee the Secretary General for Strategic and Private Investments, Lois Labrianidis, aims to create a luxury tourism complex and marina in the old factory ceramics of Chios, in a private area of approximately 115 acres, with the total construction cost rising up to 100,000,000 euros.
The plan is to build luxury hotel complex five-star 280-bed complex of furnished rooms 5 star 75 beds, two complexes of furnished apartments 5 star 205 beds, thalassotherapy center, conference center, museum and training institute, paleontological theme park, yacht mooring marina and all infrastructure and ancillary facilities for the smooth operation of the tourist complex.
Positive impact
According to Mr. Labrianidis, the procedure followed is totally lawful, without any legal derogation and the work is characterized as viable business which does not address planning, urban planning and environmental objections.
The project will also have a positive impact on the national and local economy and society, as the enterpreneur has committed to outsource construction work to local firms and professionals up to at least 20% and also gighlight the specificity of the region and the site of the old potteries.
Charitable organization
Furthermore, he has committed to establishing two scholarships to Greek universities, to offer internships in the hospitality industry for young people up to 25 years and to contribute with 50,000 euros annually for as long as the investment lasts to the operating costs of a Chios Municipality charitable organization.
The decision was signed by Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism George Stathakis, Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas, represented by the Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation Giorgos Tsipras, the State Minister Nikos Pappas, Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, the Minister of Culture and Sports Aristides Baltas, Minister of Environment and Energy Panos Skourletis and the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Christos Spirtzis.
