Green light for Grecotel Athens, Club Med Kos and Atlantica Rhodes hotel investments

Greek authorities gave the green light to promote the implementation procedures of three major hotel investment by Grecotel Athens, Club Mediterranee Kos and Rhodes Atlantica, Greek newspaper Kathimerini reports:

More specifically, N. Daskalantonakis – Grecotel group will add the 28th hotel to its portfolio.

The 5-star hotel will operate in a listed building on Metropolis street and Kapnikarea, owned by Chytiroglou SA. Recently, the Greek Culture Ministry’s Attica, Eastern Central Greece and Cycladic Office of Modern Monuments and Technical Works approved the study for change of use of listed buildings into hotels.

Moreover, a decision signed by Deputy Finance Minister Trifonas Alexiadis and Deputy Minister of Economy Development and Tourism Elena Kountoura, lifted the problems that existed for the Kefalos Kos Club Mediterranee investment, on the modernization and expansion of a hotel unit that has been closed about four years. With this decision, the international hotel chain acquires 2 hectares public land for the sum of 547,377 euros.

The decision followed a Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) document which certified that the specific area lies within the Club Mediterranee property and cannot be exploited by the State since it includes two old water streams.

The ministerial decision decrees that the investment should be completed within three years. According to reports, the investment of Club Mediterranee, which is now controlled by the Chinese group of Fosun International Limited, will amount to 48 million euros and the luxury hotel will have a capacity of 800 beds.

Additionally, the Culture and Sport Minister Aristides Baltas approved the architectural design of the Atlantica Dreams Resort luxury hotel building complex in Rhodes.

The Cypriot interest Atlantica Group maintains close cooperation with German tour operator Tui. Thus, the new unit will join Tui’s Sensatori hotel chainTui operates one more Sensatori in Greece, also through the Atlantica group in Crete. Overall, the Atlantica group controls 29 hotel units in Greece, 10 in Cyprus and 4 in Egypt.
