Greece’s role in the New Development Bank under discussion

Greece’s role in international financing institutions was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting of the Government Council for Economic Policy, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Yannis Dragasakis. In addition, the Finance Ministry was authorized to start talks regarding Greece’s participation in the New Development Bank, in which the BRICS states hold shares. The Greek government has already ensured Greece’s participation in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, through Greece’s participation in international development institutions, Greek businesses and bodies are called to utilize the financing of projects realized in the member countries. Greek companies will also be able to ask performance bonds from the international development banks in order to realize infrastructure projects.
