Four bidders have expressed interest in a tender for a 1.45-billion-euro project to expand the Athens metro to a fourth line, state-owned Attiko Metro announced on Thursday.
The interested parties are the Greek-French-German consortium of GEK Terna, Vinci and Siemens, the Greek-Italian-French consortium of J&P Avax, Ghella and Alstom, the Greek-Italian team Aktor, Ansaldo and Hitachi Rail Italy and Spanish-Greek consortium FCC, Archirodon and Mytilineos.
“The management of Attiko Metro welcomes the interest and participation of construction companies from Greece and abroad, as the completion of the project will contribute to the improvement of the quality of life and the services provided to the citizens of Attica,” the company noted in a press release.
Line 4 will run from Alsos Veikou to Goudi, serving densely populated neighbourhoods of Athens such as Zografou, Kesariani, Kolonaki, Exarhia, Kypseli and Galatsi. In the long run, it will be extended further north to Ethniki Odos and to other important suburbs of Athens, like Marousi.
