The chief of Greece’s privatization agency called on the Central Archaeological Council (KAS) to publish its ruling on the former airport in Hellinikon as soon as possible, to clear the way for the investment.
“Regarding the archaeological issue, following yesterday’s decisions of the Central Archaeological Council, we believe that an important step was taken towards the completion of the procedure that is required for the unobstructed execution of the project. It is equally important that KAS decisions be published as soon as possible to accelerate the realization of the investment,” Lila Tsitsogiannopoulou noted in a statement.
On Tuesday, KAS declared approximately 280km² of archaeological interest, thus opening-under conditions- the way for a redevelopment project in the abandoned old Athens airport.
Tsitsogiannopoulou stressed that other recent decisions on Hellinikon, such as the ruling which established that the area is not forest land and the approval of the investor’s development and environmental plans were “important developments” in the process.
“We are particularly pleased with the outcome of this case,” she concluded.
