Local officials voice reservations about Cosco’s master plan for OLP

Mayors, chamber representatives and other officials participating in a meeting over Cosco’s master plan to develop the port of Piraeus (OLP) by 2021 at the Regional Unit of Piraeus on Wednesday expressed reservations about elements of the plan, according to information published by ANA.

The main problem, sources revealed, was that the time granted by the Chinese management to deliberate on the master plan is insufficient, as many of the changes that are planned for the port are very serious and will affect the activities of the nearby areas over at least 25 years.

Participants also stressed that OLP’s management should submit the construction, traffic and environmental reports, while others disagreed with the large scale of the commercial activities presented in the plan. The mayors participating in the meeting are expected to make their separate comments in briefings that will be held in their respective municipal councils.
