While Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has avidly been seeking foreign investors from the United States to Saudi Arabia, which has been forgiven for the state-sanctioned murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the top investor in the Greek tourism and real estate markets is Israel.
That claim was made by Israeli Ambassador to Greece Yossi Amrani at the Thessaloniki Summit 2021 where he said major Israeli companies are making big investments in Greek real estate even during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in hotels, said Kathimerini.
He noted, however, that he would like to see Greek and Israeli entrepreneurs and scientists “work together in joint ventures in the science, research and development sectors,” and venture into different areas of cooperation.
Amrani also called an energy collaboration among Greece, Cyprus, and Israel “a strategic game-changer, in the long term,” although it has heightened tension with Turkey which claims the seas as well under a deal with Libya no other country recognizes.
