The competent archaeological services rejected studies for the implementation of 2 investments in Mykonos and Crete.
Specifically:
- The Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades decided in favor of rejecting a study for the construction of a new 4-star hotel with a basement and a swimming pool, on a property owned by the company Dream Places Monoprospi IKE, within a plot of land measuring 899.36 sq.m., in the Paleokastro area, within the boundaries of the settlement of Ano Meras in Mykonos, because it includes extensive excavations throughout the property, without respect for its intense natural relief, is incompatible with the architectural standards of the island and its implementation will cause damage to the immediate environment of the archaeological site of Paleokastro.
To prevent damage, it recommended that the company submit a modified study with specific terms described in the decision. For example, it proposes to eliminate elements that are incompatible with the protected environment of the archaeological site and that do not comply with traditional standards, such as a long swimming pool (40.5 m.) that runs along the entire west facade, the construction of which requires extensive shaping and backfilling. It also points out that all proposed morphological elements of the facades (terraces, balconies, parapets, sunshades, etc.) must be in harmony with traditional architectural standards.
Furthermore, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Rethymno decided not to approve a study for a new two-story duplex with swimming pools, at the “Apothiki” location, outside the settlement-residential complex of Risvan Metochi, owned by the company MEGALONNISOS TOURIST ENTERPRISES S.A., given that the proposed architectural proposal includes elements such as a boxed roof, a perimeter protruding frame made of reinforced concrete, an extensive wooden curtain wall on the south side of the ground floor, and aluminum structures and glazing throughout the north side, which are not consistent with the historical and architectural character of the declared residential complex of Risvan Metochi, with which the duplex in question is in direct proximity and visual contact. It is proposed to submit a new study, which will take into account the special characteristics of the protected and declared complex of the Rizvan Metochion and will be in harmony with its architectural physiognomy and historical value.
