The progress of two more important projects in Arkalochori and Viannos, which improve access to important areas of the hinterland and make road safety even greater, was inspected by a team from the Directorate of Technical Works of the Region of Crete, headed by Deputy Regional Governor Nikos Skoulas.
The first concerns the project of the western junction of Arkalochori, which will also be the entrance junction to the settlement and which is being completed in the coming weeks, with only a few works and asphalting remaining. The junction will make the lives of the residents of the area safer as it provides additional safe access to Arkalochori.
The second project concerns the treatment of soil failures on the Heraklion-Viannos road, with a budget of 6,630,000 euros, financed by the Public Investment Program.
With the work of shaping and strengthening the slopes, with piles, gabions and other technical works, the failures identified in 19 points are being treated – two of them in Agios Sozontas – and the rest towards the Viannos area. The work has already been completed in 13 points and six more remain.
For the projects that are progressing, by order of the Governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis, as well as other issues raised for the region, separate meetings were held with the Mayor of Minoas Pediados Vasilis Keggeroglou and the Mayor of Viannos Pavlos Baritakis with the participation of the Deputy Governor Nikos Skoulas and officials.
“We noted the progress of the work on these two key projects that concern the hinterland of Heraklion. We spoke with the mayors about all the projects in their regions that affect road traffic, contribute to safety and upgrade the quality of life of residents and visitors. We also noted with satisfaction how functional the first junction that we have already constructed and has been delivered to traffic is, everything is progressing according to schedule,” emphasized the Deputy Governor Nikos Skoulas.
