The Municipality of South Pelion approved the start of the process of purchasing a property in the Local Community of Milies for the creation of a parking space.
It also approved the assignment to the competent services of the Municipality to determine the technical and spatial specifications of the property, to search for suitable properties and to request an assessment of the value of the property by a competent appraiser.
The decision was made taking into account, among other things, the tourist traffic in Milies throughout the year, the role of the settlement as a connecting road junction to other tourist villages of Pelion, the lack of organized parking spaces and the uncontrolled parking on the main roads and the provision of legislation for the acquisition of real estate with the aim of serving public needs.
In detail, the Local Community of Milies is one of the most important tourist destinations of the Municipality of South Pelion, with tourist traffic throughout the year, due to its natural beauty, historical and cultural importance, as well as the presence of the traditional railway of Pelion. At the same time, Milies is located at a junction of the road network, directly connecting other tourist settlements and villages of Pelion, which significantly increases traffic load.
The lack of organized parking spaces, combined with the increased traffic, results in frequent traffic congestion and road safety problems, culminating in a recent serious traffic accident that occurred due to uncontrolled parking on the main roads.
According to the Municipality, in order to address the problem, it was deemed absolutely necessary to initiate a process of purchasing a suitable property within or near the settlement, with the aim of transforming it into a municipal parking space, in order to ensure smooth traffic, the safety of visitors and the improvement of the quality of life of residents.
The possibility of purchasing a property by a Municipality is regulated by the municipal and community Code, which stipulate that the acquisition of real estate for municipal purposes is made following a decision of the Municipal Council, after an assessment of the value by the Board of Certified Appraisers or a certified appraiser and a legality check by the Decentralized Administration.
